Was listening to The Message translation of the New Testament this morning in the book of Hebrews. The following portion of scripture spoke to my heart and aligns with challenges I find myself walking through currently. Isn’t that the way God’s word usually works? He wants to speak to us and scripture is one of the many methods He uses to get through to us, touch our hearts and minds and to bring comfort, wisdom, correction, whatever is needed.

Here’s the passage I’m referring to:

Hebrews 4:14-16 Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let’s not let it slip through our fingers. We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.

I love the last two sentences and the attitude we are encouraged to have. Walk right up… and get what he is so ready to give. Just walk right up, no need for show or pretense. No hoops to jump through, no secret formula, just walk right up. You’re a child of God, a brother or sister to Jesus, you’re family and have all the rights and privileges that come along with this connection.

And finally, it reads… “Take the mercy, accept the help.” Wow, just take it, accept it. Take and accept. Walk right up, take and accept. It doesn’t say, crawl with your head down and beg, it says walk right up and take what is yours. Awesome!

So whatever you are going through this very day, any challenge, struggle, need, victory, success, up or down, good or bad, whatever it is, just walk on up and take the mercy, accept the help!
